Excerpt from the Weekly Bulletin, January 7, 2001:
Great News About our School ...Our Parish School has grown in size, stature, and reputation! This School year, with our enrollment at 418 students, we are the 3rd largest Parish, Catholic elementary School in the Dioceses of Providence! Congratulation to all in our School Family and to our Parish! But this growth has presented a challenge as we try to plan for the addition of 3 additional classes: another grade 6 class in 2001-2002, another grade 7 class in 2002-2003, and another grade 8 class in 2003-2004. The 2003-2004 school year will see our school at its maximum capacity with 2 classes each grade from Kindergarten thru Grade 8 with a Pre-Kindergarten program and an extended day care program for after school hours. The School Board has diligently been studying the possibilities for added classroom space without wanting to forfeit any classroom space we already have for example, our science lab, computer lab, and religious education center take up 3 classrooms but are extremely important centers of learning and great assets to our school and parish programs. Therefore, the School Board with the agreement of the Parish Finance Council has presented to Father Frank a plan to reconstruct the basement of the Convent building into an "Early Childhood Education Center". The Convent basement will hold two kindergarten classes as well as the pre-kindergarten program with additional rooms to be used by a full-time secretary, the principal, and the school nurse. Looking ahead, there will also be space for an extended day care program for these young children (in future years) and perhaps the opening of a full day-care center for children under 4 years of age! The Sisters have very graciously agreed to "give up" their dining room, kitchen, and laundry room, all located in the basement. A new and fully-equipped kitchen and laundry room will be built on the 2nd floor of the Convent where the Sisters already have a formal dining room that is more than adequate for their daily needs! Actually, the Sisters are excited because their new cooking, eating, and washing facilities will make life easier for them, all confined to the Convent's 2nd floor! The Convent does not need any structural reconstruction to make all this possible, but the installation of a full time alarm protection system and external doors that "open outward" will be the costliest projects along with the installation of the kitchen, laundry room and then some plastering and painting. The Parish Finance Council is still reviewing the projected costs of this project as well as some ideas about its funding. More details as they become available... Local Catholic High Schools:
